This is RUJ's Newsletter, the skinny on 4-string fun in Raleigh, N.C.
If you have signed up for the Raleigh Uke Jam’s email list, your email messages will look more like this. They’ll appear on a page, like a blog, in chronological order. That way, when we send a reminder about a jam or a gig or a cool new ukulele trend (microphones!! oooh!!), you should be able to track it down later without rummaging through your email inbox (or worse, your Facebook posts).
David and I and maybe others will post once a week or so. We’re also planning to record a history of the Raleigh Uke Jam — maybe as a podcast, maybe in text. That’s to be determined.
Our primary website will remain theraleighukejam.com. It’s the place to send newcomers and to check the big schedule and post some pix and videos. People who visit the page will see an invitation to sign up for the newsletter if they want to learn more.
This “blogletter” site will be the home for news and other things. We will use it to recap open mics and performances at Total Life Center and other neat places. We’ll publish tutorials about Dropbox and ForScore, and maybe even some lessons on technique. Plus, you can add comments to the posts and start a conversation without clogging everyone’s inbox!
Over time, this will become the place that records RUJ’s history.
The blogletter will accomplish a couple more things. It will make it easier to promote our YouTube channel and get more subscribers. It also will wean us from dependence on Facebook. (EDIT, May 2023: That didn’t age well. We’re still getting a lot of newbies via Facebook. So we’re continuing to use it!) Some of you don’t have Facebook and don’t want to sign up for it. Others have it but don’t check it often.
Until something better comes along, Instagram will become our primary social media site, and we really need some more content!
Also, about our Dropbox songbook: All song sheets posted are intended for private, educational, and research purposes only and not for financial gain in any form. It is acknowledged that all song copyrights belong to their respective parties.
Speaking of YouTube, here’s a golden oldie from those dark days of the pandemic. Enjoy!
