Get ready ... for August and beyond
New dates, a chance to play at the Whirligig Festival, more!
July sure flew by. … Our date at Woodland Terrace was a big hit, and they’ll want us to return. Let’s hope it’s a bit cooler. That room was cooking! I’ll share photos and videos from the gig as soon as they’re available.
This month, we’ll have our regular jams at the church, Thursday the 4th and the 18th, 7 p.m. Also, our Pelagic date is Tuesday the 30th.
Weather permitting, we’ll be at Cary Night Market, Friday the 19th, 7 to 9 p.m. Expect a songlist beforehand (“rehearsal” on the 18th; if you can’t make it to the church, the list will be a lot like the one we’d planned for the Raleigh market in May). Map of the location below.
September … wow
Back to school and back to ukes in September. We have something planned every week! Regular jams the 1st and 15th. A date at the Apex Night Market on the 8th. Ukester Brown’s workshop on barre chords and concert at the church on the 22nd. The Garner Night Market on the 23rd. (All Night Market events are weather-dependent, fyi.)
Plus, a couple of additions. We’ll return to the Total Life Center at Bond Park in Cary to play for the participants and staff Thursday the 15th from 10:30-11:30 a.m. (yes, that’s also a jam date). We have to play outdoors, so our rain check date in Thursday the 29th, also 10:30-11:30. More details forthcoming.
And … the evening of the 29th, we’ll have an open mic alongside our 9th Anniversary Celebration! Get your songs ready to play for the party-hearty crowd. There will be food. It will be excellent, because Marie is our executive chef. (We’ll probably give her some help, but again, stay tuned.)
The month will be packed. Don’t feel obligated to attend every event. Come to as many as you’re comfortable doing!
Speaking of getting ready …
The newly formed North Carolina Ukulele Collective is an umbrella group for all the uke clubs in the state. It’s been spearheaded by Ginger Jablonski in Wilson and Mary Hill in Fayetteville. The Facebook group is good place to meet people from other clubs and perhaps a portal we could use to plan some joint endeavors, such as …
They’ve reserved space for a mini-concert including members from clubs around the state on Saturday, November 5, at the N.C. Whirligig Festival at the Whirligig Park in downtown Wilson. We’ll get more information from Bonnie on Thursday on what a few eager volunteers might want to do. Let’s represent, Raleigh!
Hope I haven’t missed anything.
Until next time,
Event Planner Rick
