Hi everyone,
The calendar has aligned in that odd way, giving us a lot of activity in a few days and then none for more than a week. After a long spell with no uking, we’re at Pelagic Tuesday the 31st, at the church for our regular gig Thursday the 2nd. World Ukulele Day, by some accounts. Groundhog Day, by others.
Then we wait again until Valentine’s Day for a lunchtime gig with the New Hope Keenagers, a 55+ group, at New Hope Baptist Church, 4301 Louisburg Road, Raleigh; and back to the church on the 16th for our regular shenanigans.
Thanks for your help assembling a playlist for the Keenagers. It’s in Dropbox, and a link is here. We should give the songs a whirl at Pelagic and on the 2nd. I’ll get a headcount for the lunch gig. They’d like to know how many lunches to provide.
Make Music Day preview
You probably recall we’ve played jams several times for Make Music Day, June 21, the worldwide celebration of the Summer Solstice.
I hope and expect we’ll be at it again this year, with a special twist. If you want to learn more, come to the Groundhog Day/World Ukulele Day Jam Thursday early — say, around 6:30 — and I’ll let you know what’s up. It’s pretty exciting, for me, anyway.
Last time, Vivian led us in “Sugar Moon,” a song that’s been collecting virtual dust in our virtual songbook. It’s tons of fun. Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys did it long ago. Here’s Asleep at the Wheel performing it on “Austin City Limits” a few years back, with some of the surviving Playboys along side. Hawwww!
See you soon,
Rustlin’ Rick
Vivian knows the best songs! Love, sugar, moon!
