Return to normalcy (sort of)
The Whirligig Festival is on the way ... and then, the holiday season
Hi y’all,
Our normal schedule resumes Thursday with a jam at the church, 7 p.m. Have you missed the recent frenzy?
We don’t have many Halloween-themed songs in the book, so I added one: Spooky. It’s in Dropbox, and a link is here. I also added the arrangement of Midnight Special I went over at the September open mic. Link here.
If you keep a hard-copy, dead-tree version of the songbook for yourself, please print these and add them to your books. If you’re a Dropboxer, then be sure to refresh your book. Thanks!
Whirligig Festival prep
The final rehearsal for the N.C. Whirligig Festival is Saturday, 10 - 11:30 am, Wilson County Public Library. Our first joint rehearsal went well. Join if you can!
Showtime is Saturday, November 5, with a rehearsal at 10, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 5142 NC Highway 58 Business. We’ll break for lunch before noon and then we’re on stage in front of the courthouse at 3 p.m. (Be there to set up at 2:30.) It’ll be a lot of fun. Hope for decent weather …
Speaking of weather …
We’re back at Pelagic, Tuesday, October 25, at 7. The way-too-early forecast suggests it may be warm enough to play outdoors one more time. Don’t count on it, but keep your fingers crossed. If it’s too chilly to do that, we’ll be indoors.
We’re also set to play at TLC Bond Park, Tuesday, November 15, at 10:30 a.m. (Be there around 10.) Again, hope for nice weather. We’ll have to play in front of the building, where we were for Tar Heel Traveler. The management isn’t allowing large groups of visitors indoors … yet.
We’re (yikes) on Twitter
We received so much great feedback and interest from the WRAL/Tar Heel Traveler segment that I decided to set up a Twitter account: @raleigh_uke_jam.
I understand ‘that website’ can be a bit of a cesspool, but it’s another avenue to reach people. We still get the overwhelming majority of our new followers from Facebook. Twitter is another way curious folks can find us. I plan to use the feed to repost the newsletter rather than produce unique content.
If you’re a Twitter person, please follow — and tell your friends!
And now for some fun:
I’d love to get my hands on those ukes before they were destroyed …
