Happy Halloween (season)!
EDITED, November 4, to include new information about Whirligig practice and parking. See * below.
The year has flown by. It’s been a great one for us. Continued fun and growth, plenty of activity, some outside recognition (thanks, Cathy/Marcy/IBMA and WRAL), and our first concert, hosting Ukester Brown!
We’re not done. As you know, The NC Whirligig Festival is next Saturday, November 5, in Wilson. *We’re joining our friends at the N.C. Ukulele Collective. Final rehearsal is 10 a.m. at the Wilson County Public Library. The gig is 3 p.m. at the Courthouse; plan to get there early to set up. If you park at the parking deck next to the library, you can keep your car there the entire day at no charge and take a trolley to the festival area. If you need transportation from your parking spot to the courthouse, let us know when you arrive.
Check NCUC’s Facebook page for more information! If you don’t plan to play, drop by to say hello and check out other festival fun (and Bob’s woodworking magic; he’s a vendor at the the festival).
Before then, our regular jam at the church is Thursday, Nov. 3, 7-9 p.m. From there …
It’s (almost) the holiday season
CANCELED! Total Life Center Bond Park in Cary Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. We’ll go over any adjustments in the playlist we used in September at our 11/3 jam. Think about suggestions before Thursday. The forecast is for cold weather and there’s no place to play unmasked indoors.
Then …
Thursday, Nov. 17, 7 p.m., Jam at the church. Along with a few favorites, we’re jump-starting the Winter Wonderland Carousel, preparing for several Christmas/Holiday performances in December. Jingle your bells!
Tuesday, Nov. 29, 7 p.m., Pelagic Jam. Indoors. The halls may be decked. We’ll spread some cheer and probably consume some, too!
Thursday, Dec. 1, 7 p.m., Holiday Jam at the church. We are again unable to perform indoors for our Total Life Center friends. So, as we did last year, we will record our Christmas Carol/Holiday Song program, post it on YouTube, and share with TLC friends and the rest of the YouTubiverse. Don your gay holiday apparel and bring lots of Christmas spirit (but no Christmas spirits — past, present, or future — please).
Saturday, Dec. 10, 4-6 p.m., Christmas and Holiday Songs at the Food Hall with the NC Ukulele Collective, Old North State Food Hall, 67 MLK Highway, Selma (near the Premium Outlets at I-95 and U.S. 70). Nathan, who owns the nation’s first roadside food hall, saw us at the Garner Night Market and invited us to play for the diners and the mall shoppers and the I-95 travelers who stop by his local vendors for a meal. We’ll play with our NCUC Whirligig friends and enjoy dinner (on Nathan) afterward. Get shopping done early while you’re there! More details to come.
Thursday, Dec. 15, 7 p.m., Jam at the church. Save that holiday spirit. We’re not done yet!
Monday, Dec. 19, 2-4 p.m., Holiday Songs at Woodland Terrace, Cary. They asked us back! For two sets! We’ll play at one location in the community at 2 and another at 3. Again, stay tuned.
NEW LISTING: Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2-3 p.m., Holiday Songs at Waltonwood Lake Boone, 3550 Horton Street, Raleigh (inside the 440 beltline not far from Rex Hospital). Our debut at another assisted living center. We’ll have these songs memorized by then!
Tuesday, Dec. 27, 7 p.m., New Year’s Week Jam at Pelagic. Indoors. We can tell everyone what Santa brought us! I guess we should learn some New Year’s songs …
Thursday, Dec. 29, 7 p.m., Final Open Mic of 2022 at the church. Last time we had overflow participation. This time we’ll have a signup sheet. And maybe share something sparkling and sing those New Year’s songs we’ve learned if time permits!
So many great ways to celebrate the end of the year. Hope we see you as often as you can join us!
